Occupied landscapes and the impact of occupation on the environment

The mobility of the front, the militarization of vast areas that passed from hand to hand, has led to a rapid blurring of frontline and rear borders in terms of environmental development practices, and revealed resource mobilization and the subjugation of nature to the logic of military discipline. This study will examine the specifics of environmental policy in defeated territories that changed hands between warring armies. Plans and practices for the use of natural resources in conquered areas included cutting down forests, destroying livestock and searching for and developing minerals.
